Travel Insurance Is It The Protection You Need

A simple travel insurance policy for a flight can cost as little as $10, protecting you in the event of a flight cancellation, delay, re-booking or even a crash!

Other travel insurance plans can cost between 3 or 8 percent of the cost of your trip, to cover things like lost luggage, terrorist attacks, emergency evacuations, hospital stays and rental car collision protection. The best thing about these plans is that they are very flexible, letting you pick and choose what coverage you need most.

However before you race out and pay for some insurance you don't need let's discuss what the three main covers are when you travel. These are Medical, Trip and Luggage we will explain each in more detail below.

Medical Insurance

This type of coverage will cover any illness or injury expenses incurred while traveling within your own country or abroad. A medical/health policy covers medical and dental expenses incurred because of injury or illness.

Extra policy coverage may also include medical evacuation coverage which will pay for ambulance or helicopter rides should you require emergency care. At the very worst, the accidental death and dismemberment policy functions as a life insurance policy, paying your beneficiaries if you have a fatal accident.

Trip Insurance

Trip insurance protection provides coverage for cancellations, delays and interruptions. AIG Travel Guard offers a "no questions asked" money back guarantee if you decide you cannot or do not want to take your trip for any reason. Travel insurance company Travelex also offers reimbursement for any event ticket purchased with a credit card if you cannot attend the event due to a delay or cancellation.

American Express has a travel insurance policy that even reimburses lost or damaged golf clubs and prepaid greens fees lost to poor weather. You can also get a refund on any trip where terrorist activity or natural disaster interrupts your plans.

Luggage Cover

Luggage protection is another good reason to buy travel insurance. Few things are worse than arriving in a new city without your personal belongings. Usually airline representatives shrug their shoulders and have little to offer you.

With coverage from Travel Safe or Travelex, you will receive reimbursement up to $2,500 for your lost goods, and if your luggage is simply delayed, then you can get reimbursed for any replacement items you had to buy in the meantime. You may pick and choose the type of travel insurance policy that best suits your needs to get a reasonable rate.
